A simpler, smarter way to build Patch Flows

by Robopack Team  | 13 May, 2025
Let’s be honest.

The original patch flow builder in Robopack did its job and gave you full control when you needed it. But as the product grew and more users joined in, we started to notice a pattern.

Most flows used the same defaults. Most teams just wanted to set things up quickly, without scrolling through every option.

So we made it easier.

We’ve redesigned the flow creation experience to focus on what matters most, right from the start while still giving you the flexibility to dive deeper when needed.

Meet the new Robopack Flow Builder

It’s faster, clearer, and built for how teams actually use Robopack. You can still get into the details when needed, but now the default setup is clean and focused.

What’s changed

The new screen gives you exactly what you need to get started

  • A flow name (free text — use what makes sense for you)
  • A patch group (optional, but helpful if you’ve set one up)
  • An app version (again, free text)

That’s all it takes to begin. No clutter, no distractions.
Need more control? Just click “Show Flow Options” to reveal everything else. Organized, simplified, and easy to understand.

What’s inside the advanced options

You’ll still find the same power here, just with better labels and defaults.

  • Pick a script template from your list
  • Choose whether the deployment starts automatically or manually.
  • Decide what happens when a new app version is released
  • Set how many superseded versions you want to keep in Intune (default is three)

Everything’s explained clearly, so you’re not left guessing what each setting does. And if you’re not sure, the default options are designed to work well in most environments.

Why we changed it

Because speed and clarity matter. Especially when you’re managing dozens of apps across multiple tenants.

Most admins don’t need to customize every flow from scratch. And for the ones who do, those options are still there (just out of the way until you need them).

Now it’s easier for new users to get started, quicker for experienced users to move fast, and safer for everyone to avoid misconfigurations.

What’s next

This update is part of a broader goal to make Robopack more intuitive and efficient, especially for teams working at scale. Whether you’re handling dozens of apps or thousands of devices, your tools shouldn’t slow you down.

There’s more coming, including improvements to group visibility, flow logic, and reporting, but this new builder sets the tone for what’s ahead.

Try it out

The updated flow builder is rolled out and available for Robopack users. No setup needed. Just open Robopack, start a new flow, and see the difference.
